The Review: Rimmel's Professional Eyebrow Pencil

I have been a brush and powder kind of person ever since I started filling in my brows, but pencils just seem to adhere to the skin in sparse patches a little better, so I wanted to give them a go. I had heard so many great things about the Rimmel 'Professional Eyebrow Pencil' formulation, and while I loved the application process, there was something a little off about this product.

I rarely have a "disappointing" product because I do a lot of research before I buy anything, and I don't necessarily like to bash a product because I believe everything works differently for different people. However, while this product did work in the way I wanted, the colouring was completely off. The colour the cap displays is perfect for me, the name "dark brown" suggested to me exactly what I wanted. Even looking at the swatch, it looks fine, but on my brows it is just way, way too warm toned for my colouring. It looks red in comparison to my ashier hair, which is not a nice look.

The name "dark brown" suggested cool toned to me, even slightly warm, just not with straight up red undertones. It would work well for someone with richer, warm or even auburn hair but if you have cool toned, ashy blonde hair this is definitely not the pencil for you. I've been trying really hard to make it work, and layering my usual powder on top does mask the warmth a little. The main reason I am disappointed is that this would have been the perfect product if the colouring was right. I have been doing a little research and none of the other colours seem like they would match me either, which is such a shame.

Have you tried these pencils, and how did you find the colouring? Is there anything you think would suit medium-ashy blonde hair?

  2. I use the essence brow pencil and have only good things to say about it. I do go over it though, with benefit's brow kit.

  3. I find it realllyyy hard to find brow pencils that are a good match for me. It's so disappointing that the shade was completely off on this¬

  4. I'll definitely check out Essences shade selection when I'm next in store! I think I would always use the pencil in conjunction with powder, as I love the powder look, it just doesn't fill in as much as I'd like in some areas. x

  7. I find a brow match really tough, I don't like my brows to look too dark, but then sometimes they're waaay too warm!

  16. The great thing about powders is that they are so diverse! Pencils do seem to be much more limited. x

  18. I love the Chanel Eyebrow Pencil in 30. It's an in-between colour for blonde and brown and it worked really well with my blonde hair last summer! I have a full review on my blog. ^^
