Setting your own goals and aspirations for the new year is such an incredible and rewarding thing to do. However, I wanted to focus on the small things that might slip under the radar and in the long run really add up, or can impact someone in a negative way. There are so many seemingly small things we could all really work towards, as we all make mistakes, and even if there is no complete resolve to them they are great to be conscious of none the less.
1. Open Mindedness
Even if you already believe yourself to be an open minded person, there probably are one or two things you have a firm opinion on. I don't think anyone should change their opinion to suit someone else, but having the ability to listen to and form an understanding of another view is such an incredible skill to have. Listening to people's opinions and trying to understand where they are coming from widens your mind so much and really is an invaluable learning experience.
2. Being Conscious Of How You Make People Feel
Every human on this planet has a different level of sensitivity, and this is so important to keep in mind. I think it's so important to watch what you say to people and respond accordingly. A depreciating joke may be appropriate for one friend, but that doesn't mean it's appropriate for everyone. People will always remember how you've made them feel, which is something that inspires me to stick to this resolution.
3. Spending Time With Those Who Matter Most
This always starts out small. Skipping a family dinner to work on an assignment, saying no to friends because you don't feel like going out. All of these can be okay as a one off thing, but they really do start to add up quickly and can create rifts.
4. Make Time For The Things You Love Every Single Day
It can be as small as reading for twenty minutes before bed, or taking a bath. I just strongly believe that you should do at least one thing you love every single day, no matter how busy you are - it's good for the soul!
5. Drink More Water
I don't mean to sound like a mum here, but so many people don't drink enough and it's so, so important! I try to drink three of my big 800mL a day, and am being more strict with myself this year.
What do you think is a resolution every person could work towards?
Completely agree! I need to step up my water intake, I did really well for a time last year and I felt so much better so I'm not really sure why I stopped! xx
ReplyDeleteNumbers one and five for me! :)

What a wonderful, positive post. I feel that I've been getting more open minded as I get older, so I really hope this trend continues! Hope you have a Happy New Year!

This is such a positive post, and such a nice twist on the 'normal' resolutions posts. I especially agree with number 2!

These are such great goals and are all definitely things I want to work on this year. For me personally, I want to spend as much time with my family as I can. Time is precious and it's important to make every moment count.

Something I think everyone can do is: during your morning coffee/tea, read a couple of pages of something as well. I'm trying to get in the habit of reading the news and to do that, I'm forcing myself to just sit and relax in the morning with a hot tea instead of jumping straight on to the computer >_<
ReplyDeleteThis is such a good one! I use to do this every day before high school, and it really started my day on a good note! x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! x
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! I completely agree with this. x
ReplyDeleteI think number 2 is very important as well. x
ReplyDeleteI feel like everyone gets more open minded with age, which is such a good thing! x
ReplyDeleteSo many people are, but one you get into the habit your day feels incomplete without it. x
ReplyDeleteThat's why they're all so great, and they're things you can do instantly without any preparation!
ReplyDeleteThey are both so important! Good luck. x
ReplyDeleteIt makes such a difference, and I feel so blah when I don't drink much in a day. x
