Custom Coverage
As someone who swears by sponges, finding a face brush that I love as much, possibly even more, is a big deal. While I love the finish a sponge can give, I did notice how much product they suck up and how much more foundation I needed to get a light coverage. After trialling the Expert Face Brush from Real Techniques for a while, and seeing how much other loved it while I didn't, I figured brushes just weren't for me.
When I picked up MAC's Face and Body foundation I knew I needed to change my application method. If my thicker foundations got sucked up by a sponge, there was no hope for this water-like product. With the foundation in hand, I stopped by the pharmacy and picked up the next in line on my potential face brush "to try" list, the EcoTools Custom Coverage brush.
It took nearly no effort at all to blend the foundation into the skin and it looked flawless. While buffing used to take me around 3-5 minutes depending on the coverage I was looking for, my entire face was done in under a minute. I thought this may all be due to the thin consistency of Face and Body, so I gave it a whirl with my thickest foundation, Rimmel True Match. While it did take a little longer, it was nothing like the time it took to blend it in with my RT brush or even with a sponge - I was sold.
This really does give a custom coverage as you can really work the products into the skin with a circular motion, or you can even pat the product on to build a higher coverage. I highly recommend this to anyone who has face brush struggles, as this offers a quick and streak-free application. The only downside of this brush was that it shedded a lot on my first use, about 5-10 hairs, but after that it hasn't lost a hair since.
What is your favourite brush for foundation?
This sounds so good! I have a few Ecotools brushes which I like but don't have this one, the fact it buffs in foundation so quickly is massive plus!
ReplyDeleteI have found that while buffing brushes do leave a lovely finish, they do take awhile to get the base perfect. That's why I was so excited at how quickly this one worked. x
ReplyDeleteMAC face & body has always been on my to-try list... glad to hear that it works so well for you! i'm currently obsessed with the NARS tinted moisturizer, but probably in time will try out the MAC face&body next : )

I have fallen in love with your blog, particularly because there are pics of cats in the background! xx

This brush sounds nice! I haven't tried many ecotools brushes so maybe I should look into it.

The brush sounds so good! Never really tried a brush by eco tools, but I would love to try one!
ReplyDeleteMy Makeup Mémoire
Definitely do! I have had most of mine a year longer than my Sigma, and the Sigma brushes are the ones looking worse for wear. They're just of such a hight quality for such a low price. x
ReplyDeleteYou definitely should give them a go! They are such great quality for the price and they are all super, super soft! x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for that! I'll definitely check out your blog. x
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read review-wise they seem to offer the same coverage and finish. If they are the same, buying the biggest Face & Body is probably better value. x
ReplyDeletenueyork.blogspot.com
that's great to know. and yes the big bottle does seem like pretty good value! : ) i guess the only difference is i'd probably use a brush with the MAC like you did, while the NARS formula is more of a moisturizer so i just use my fingers xx
ReplyDeleteOh perfect post! I am currently searching for a new foundation brush since I just bought one and it... well.. it sucks. I'm losing so much foundation in the brush (oh yes) and I just don't like working with it. So thank you!

I'm glad to hear you like this! I might have tried something from Ecotools a long time ago, but we actually don't get the brand here in Belgium! I love both Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush and Wayne Goss #1 for foundation, but to be honest I haven't used them much since I discovered Dior Backstage Blender! I MIGHT want to try a Beauty Blender at some point, but I heard it bleeds dye so I am sitting on that.
ReplyDeleteI do need to invest in some proper brushes, although I don't like admitting that one haha. This sounds perfect!

This brush sounds amazing! I usually use my MAC 109 but this looks slightly bigger and well, I have a pretty big face! Haha!
ReplyDeleteAlso, is this how small Face & Body bottles are now? Mine is huuuuge!

No problem! I find that this doesn't absorb much product at all, especially if you are quite light handed with your strokes. x
ReplyDeleteEcotools is such a great affordable brand and they are everywhere online if you really want to give them a go! The Wayne Goss brushes look so beautiful, I imagine they're a dream to work with. x
ReplyDeleteDon't worry we've all been there! When I first started the only thing I used brush with was powder. x
ReplyDeleteThis is actually the smaller of the two. MACs are just counters where I live, and there's only one standalone "studio" type shop in my city. Because it's my first time buying it I didn't really want to have to drive all the way into the city to buy the big bottle in case I didn't like it, so I'll definitely be ordering that one online from now on! x
ReplyDeleteThe brush looks wonderful and I so want to try this foundation :)

I'm in love with the brush that you used. I need this combo. I haven't tried MAC foundation but I would love to try it! The MAC store scares me a bit.

I've been looking for a good set of brushes to add to my brush collection and I've always wanted to try eco tools. Thanks for reviewing this. I do enjoy putting on my foundation on with a brush rather then a sponge because I do find that it takes less time compared to a sponge. I always want a look which is quick and easy especially when I'm going to work!!

I use a buffer brush by Zoeva. Have you ever tried this brand? I can highly recommend if you have trouble finding good brushes (:

I loved the real techniques buffing brush soo much before I got Mac studio fix, now I'm not as keen, I might try the beauty blender to apply studio fix, I'm not sure!
ReplyDeleteCLOTHING CONSCIOUS// FASHION & LIFESTYLE BLOG
This looks like such a fantastic brush! I have to say, I much prefer my beauty blender over brushes these day but I do love my Sigma F80 xx
ReplyDeletei think my favourite brushes have to be the real techniques buffing brush or the sephora 45 brush. i loved the expert face brush for a long time but when i went back to the buffing brush i realised how much i love it when it's a little less dense and has a bit more movement to it which it looks like this one has as well! i love the finish of a beauty blender i just really don't have that much time in the mornings to use one all the time.

I definitely want to try this brush out, I love my EcoTools blush brush, so I'm pretty sure I'll love this too! Plus, Mac face and body is my fave :)

I will have to give that brush a go, I've never tried any of the EcoTools brushes.

I'm using a Real Techniques one from the face set that I like for liquid foundation. Otherwise, I use the Make Up For Ever kabuki brush for mineral foundation.

Wow, I've never seen that brush from ecotools but it looks so cool! I use a brush like that from Sigma and I absolutely love it! No streaks from a normal foundation brush <3
ReplyDeleteBtw, I keep coming back and loving your blog! Definitely following you on bloglovin' <3
