My Favourite Summer Reads

There is nothing more I love than reading and I try to fit it in whenever I can. The summer holidays are the perfect time to take advantage of some of that spare time and sneak in some relaxed reads while basking in the sun. When it isn't school time, I usually lay off the heavy reading and leave room only for fun, light reads. Here are some I've been loving this summer...

Cooper Bartholomew Is Dead by Rebecca James
Rebecca James is an amazing Australian author, and I love all of her books because they're very close to home. Each of her books that I've read so far have a thriller or mystery element to them, which I love. Cooper Bartholomew Is Dead is about a boy who dies by falling off of a cliff by the sea and it is deemed suicide by the police. His girlfriend doesn't believe that he was depressed, Cooper having seemed to love his life, and tries to piece together what happened that night. It's a great page turner and I tore through it in a day.

Not That Kind Of Girl by Lena Dunham
This is a great summer read because it's a lot of little stories in one, so you can go back and forth with this book and read it as you like. Lena's book is definitely one I would recommend to any girl, as it deals with a lot of ideas and issues but is also incredibly funny.

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
This is one of those books that makes you feel like you're falling in love again. Brittany is the "perfect" popular girl and Alex is the bad boy from the other side of town. A bet unfolds with Alex and his friends that if he can sleep with the most popular girl in school he can have his friend's motorbike. It is very cliched, think 10 Things I Hate About You, but that is what makes it so satisfying!

The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
I am such a big fan of the film, so it was only natural that I'd have to read the book. The story is almost identical, but Lauren is such a funny writer and Andy's internal thoughts as she is doing her job are so much funnier than the film. It's definitely a must read if you love the movie, because you can get so much more out of it!

Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar
This series has to be the ultimate summer read in my eyes. They're only slim books, they're easy reads and they're just as amazing as the show. However, the story lines do vary which makes them a must read for any fans of the show!
