My Favourite Lip Product Formulas

Lip product formulation is a deal breaker to me, regardless of how stunning a colour is. Unless it is perfect, I don't find myself reaching for it. I love things to be creamy and opaque and I have rounded up the brands that do it best. These are all products that I've loved since the very first application.

MAC Lipsticks "Amplified" Formula
This is not matte, but it is not glossy either. It's just a great in-between that is opaque and easy to wear regardless of the state of your lips. I'm not going to lie, most of MACs formulas are spot on, but I really love this one in particular and recommend you checking them out if you haven't!

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks
These are an incredible, moisturising and glossy formula which is definitely saying something as I usually am not a gloss fan. These lipsticks are incredibly opaque, which is what I love the very most about them. This is a range I would love to see extended as there are only a handful of shades that I would want to purchase.

Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipsticks
Rimmel really do lips well, evidently. This is another incredible formulation, but most of the collection leans more towards the creamy/matte side. This collection is also much broader in the colour department and has something for everyone. I recommend this formulation to people all the time!

Revlon Colourburst Matte Balms
These are incredible and I haven't heard a single bad review on them! They have a nice range, and I'm sure their glossier formula are just as lovely. The thing I love most about these is their minty smell, as I'm a freak when it comes to mint.

Topshop Lipsticks
I love Topshop largely for their range of on trend colours, but their formulation is usually spot on no matter what it may be. They are a great, affordable brand to try if you can get your hands on them, especially for unique shades that just aren' that common in the pharmacy.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet
This is another incredible formula that's major flaw is the shade range. I really am not a red person, no matter how much I wish I was, and would love to see some more neutral shades in the mix. These are super long wearing, although they are removed with eating, but for this reason they aren't the drying liquid lipsticks you might have tried in this past. These definitely can be applied on slightly chapped lips, which is definitely a rare quality in the liquid department.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist!

I have been looking high and low for this shade for what seems like months. The much coveted Kylie Jenner lip is what sent me in a frenzy for this product, and while I could have ordered it online, something about the hunt and satisfactions of finding it in store stopped me.

Because of the Hype: Lip Products

Untitled #25

As a reader of blogs, I'm sure that you can relate to the title of this post. Sometimes a crazy urge to buy a product comes over us without any knowledge of it besides the fact that so-and-so talked about it and loved it. This is my little collection of products that I'm most likely not going to be able to resist because of the rave-reviews and people I fangirl over talking about them.

1. Maybelline Colour Elixirs
When it comes to these one name comes to mind: Estée. I am not even a gloss person, and after swatching these in store they are most definitely glossy, but something about the way she spoke about the Colour Elixir's has convinced me I will love them regardless of logic. SOS! A definite "bloggers made me do it" moment in the making.

2. L'Oréal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lip Colours
Once again, an ultra glossy formulation that for some reason I think I will love (even though I probably won't - sob!). Everything about these is beautiful from the packaging to the colours and they are definitely something I would love to try regardless. They seem as though they'd be in the same arena as the Colour Elixirs, so I'll definitely be trying those out first!

3. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet
I have almost bought a very particular colour from this collection multiple times, but after gushing over the swatch I promptly realise that it is out of stock! It's been a source of heartbreak for the past few weeks now, and this wouldn't be on my list if it wasn't so elusive (it would be in my makeup bag!). The colour I am talking about is 07-Nude-Is. It is the most stunning mauvey-pink toned colour I have ever seen and I need it in my life. Aside from how perfect the colour is, when I swatched it on my hand it took a shower and makeup remover to get off - amazing!

4. Maybelline Colour Sensational Stripped Nudes
I saw Lisa Eldridge use one of these on then gift to Alexa Chung. Enough said. Plus, the fact that I'm terrified of very flesh-toned looking nudes and there are so many in this collection I'm bound to find my perfect shade. Maybelline is one of my favourite drug-store brands and I've yet to be disappointed.

5. Revlon ColourBurst Lacquer Balms
I've tried the original and the matte formulations and adore them both, but for some reason I've stayed away from the lacquer balms. Lately I've seen these on a few people and have loved the look of them, I just didn't see them to be as long wearing at the matte formulation which is probably why I avoided them. I really, really want to give these ago, especially the bright pinks!

These are my potential and highly probable blogger-induced splurges of the moment, what are yours? Have you tried any of these and do you think they are worth the hype?

My Collection #1: Lip Crayons

Low maintenance, high pigmentation and easy application are what make lip crayons my favourite lip product. A thick lipstick with saturated pigmentation is beautiful, but not ideal for the daily grind. I recommend these to anyone who wants a pop of colour on the lips without the hassle and worry that come with a lot of traditional lipsticks.

My most used lip crayon of the bunch is the Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in what I believe is "Fuchsia Libre" (the packaging is a little ambiguous). It's super pigmented, glossy and applies like a dream. While the richness of the colour fades, it isn't patchy and does leave a stain to the lips.

Revlon's range of Colourburst Balms and Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are a cult favourite and for a reason. I love the new matte formulation and on days where my lips are feeling chapped and not matte-ready they are easily transformed into a creamy texture with some lip balm. The balm stains are also gorgeous, though a little less pigmented I've found. The best thing about this range is the minty smell and taste. My shades are Adore, Precious, Audacious and Elusive.

The Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in "Haute Pink Twist" has medium pigmentation and is a hot pink colour. It does tend to make your teeth look a little yellow, as with any pink of this tone, but it is still a gorgeous colour that I often sheer out.

Lastly, the Face of Australia Sheer Gloss Lip Crayon in "Macaroon" is a more budget friendly option at at least half the price of the other products mentioned. As the name suggests, this is a very sheer product that reminds me more of tinted lip balm than anything else, which is great for those days where you want just a little something on your lips.

I'm open for any recommendations when it comes to lip crayons, so what are your favourites?
